It has been quite a long and fun journey over the past month or so as we assembled and upgraded just about every aspect of the Anet A8 3d printer. This printer is by far the most time I have invested in upgrades but that was a lot of fun. I was able to learn a lot about the ins and outs of this printer along with expanding my knowledge on 3d printers in general even farther.
All in all I think this is a fantastic printer and with the massive community behind it on Facebook the Anet A8 may be the best china 3d printer kit printer you can get. Even without a single upgrade it is a solid printer but as a bear minimum I do recommend at least swapping the power supply and directly wiring the hot bed without the use of plastic connectors. At 220 x 220 x 240 mm build area it is an extremely large build area for a budget printer at a very low price tag of around 160 usd.
I typically like glass over aluminum for the bed but being able to use my auto bed leveling sensor for the first time with the aluminum bed worked out perfectly. It is quite easy to assemble and upgrade as long as you take your time. I did make a complete video series on this that you can reference here. If you are unable to follow the videos step by step it will at least help to use as reference if you get stuck while going through the pdf.
The default extruder is not to bad at all and I like that they even use premium lead screws instead of threaded rods which are much more accurate in their machining. When going with a cheap china kit you want value and this printer has that along with a community of awesome individuals that are helping each other and evolving this kit printer into one that can hang with the best of them. I highly recommend this printer for those that are not afraid to put in some TLC and the time it takes to get to know the machine.
