Modeling And Upgrading Monoprice Select Mini Control Knob

For this weeks live stream I thought it would be fun to model our own control knob to replace the stock one. The knob has never been an issue for me but it seems many people do not like how flat the one that the printer comes with is. I also thought that it would be a great way to show off a little but of what goes into 3d modeling. We got very lucky and got all of the dimensions right on our first attempt at modeling.

It was refreshing to see a couple of viewers state that they also wanted to look into 3d modeling or give it a try as many of them had never seen the process or what it takes to take something from idea to finished product.

I ended up making a couple different versions of the control knob depending on personal preference. I then went ahead and uploaded them to thingiverse so you are more than welcome to download and print it for yourself.

To get the old knob off i recommend using a very thing flat head that you can slide in between the knob and printer and pry it off. It will take a bit of work but it will just pop off eventually. As for the new knob make sure you have your printer off and it will take some force to get it into place. It works extremely well though and I love how it turned out.

I recommend printing the knew knob at .2 or .3 layer height with 20% infill.

Here is a link to the knob:

I ended up using a glow in the dark pla which is semi-transparent and I think it turned out awesome! If you print it out please post some pictures!
